Mycotoxins form a large group of toxic secondary metabolites produced by certain species of molds. They are produced by various species of filamentous fungi before harvest, during harvest, and throughout the subsequent storage of raw materials and feed. The common denominator for this structurally diverse group of low-molecular-weight substances of various origins is their toxic character. Mycotoxins can induce chronic and acute intoxication in both animals and humans.
