Sows in optimal condition, with a sufficient supply of quality nutrients and safe drinking water, are the foundation of the farm's entire subsequent production. Only piglets that are vital and receive enough nutrients and antibodies are able to overcome the stressful weaning period without major health problems and loss of growth. Negative influences from this period are further reflected in the overall economics of rearing and subsequent pig fattening.
